Most health insurance plans include counselling. Ensure that your plan covers Canadian Certified Counsellors (CCC) prior to booking your first session.
-
We do not direct-bill insurance companies. After we receive the full payment for a session, we will print or email you a receipt with the counsellor’s registration number on it. You can submit this receipt and registration number to your insurance company to get reimbursed for the session.

The first 5-10 minutes of the session usually include a parent/guardian check-in with the therapist. Following that, the therapist will spend the remaining time engaging the child in therapeutic activities and fun games. The therapist will ensure that the child feels safe and comfortable before inviting them to open up and begin processing their struggles. Sometimes a child feels comfortable opening up in the first session, but often times they don’t. The therapist will never push the child beyond their comfort level.

The simple answer is that it varies. Counselling is a journey of gaining tools to cope with various types of mental health struggles. The nature of the struggles, along with a myriad of other factors will ultimately influence how many sessions are necessary. Typically, you should see some improvement within 6-10 sessions. Remember that in many cases, the presenting problems didn’t appear instantaneously and therefore won’t disappear instantaneously. Trust the process.

There are many amazing counselling therapists in Saskatoon and the surrounding areas. Our aim is not to compete with them as we are all doing our best to support mental health in our local community. With that being said, our office space and counselling set-up is a bit unique in that it is designed specifically with children and youth in mind. In many respects, it looks more like a youth-center than a talk-therapy office. This environment naturally helps children and youth to feel at ease which is crucial to the therapeutic process.
